Shoot a complete portrait dolly zoom for an edit

Plan depth, rehearse movement, inspect tracking, and save a short character shot with a clear cinematic purpose.

Design the background change

Imagine a five-second moment in which a character realizes something while the corridor behind them changes perspective. Choose visible depth, steady lighting, and strong subject contrast. Decide the emotional purpose, orientation, and eyeline before moving. Check the walking route for obstacles and rehearse safely away from traffic.

Rehearse, then record

  1. Place the subject and frame with room for movement and the camera’s zoom range.
  2. In Hitchcock Dolly Zoom, tap the subject area and choose backward/zoom-in or forward/zoom-out.
  3. Select five seconds and rehearse a smooth move. Three or eight seconds may fit a different rhythm.
  4. Follow direction and pace prompts while keeping the subject visible and unobstructed.
  5. Preview immediately and assess size stability, framing, and the background change.

Change one variable per retake

For size fluctuations, start with smaller, smoother steps. For lost tracking, improve contrast and reduce occlusion. For weak perspective change, reconsider depth and movement distance. Changing duration, route, position, and orientation together makes diagnosis difficult. Movement-matched zoom still depends on suitable framing and steady operation.

Accept and preserve the useful shot

Check that the subject stays framed, the background effect supports the emotion, and the beginning and ending are usable for editing. Full-length watermarked previews and retakes are free; saving and sharing require a one-time unlock. The current version records without audio, so plan sound separately. Save the accepted take promptly: retaking or relaunching can delete the temporary shot.

Scope and limits

The release supports 3-, 5-, and 8-second 1080p portrait or landscape shots. Results depend on lighting, tracking contrast, occlusion, movement, and available zoom. Software tracking does not guarantee motion-control accuracy or identical results at every distance.
