Tolerance Master

Tolerance Master — Hole and shaft limits and fits

Understand the upper and lower size limits of a hole and shaft before evaluating clearance or interference. Tolerance Master is the limits-and-fits tool in the TFC engineering collection.

The App Store currently offers version 1.1. The artwork shows version 1.1.

Read the limits before choosing a fit

Let Dmax and Dmin be the largest and smallest hole sizes, and dmax and dmin the shaft sizes. The smallest difference is Dmin − dmax; the largest is Dmax − dmin. Two positive differences mean clearance, two negative differences mean interference, and a range across zero can indicate a transition fit.

A worked example with assumed limits

Assume a hole of 10.010–10.020 mm and a shaft of 9.990–10.000 mm. Minimum clearance is 0.010 mm; maximum clearance is 0.030 mm. These are illustrative assumed limits, not an H7, g6, or other standard tolerance zone. Consult the applicable standard data and nominal-size interval when choosing a standard fit.

Current version 1.1

The store lookup on October 4, 2026 showed version 1.1. The artwork corresponds to 1.1, with target-clearance/interference selection, tolerance diagrams, and local projects. Check the current App Store listing for device requirements and regional availability.

Questions before downloading

Can H7/g6 and H7/h6 be substituted directly?

Do not substitute based on the designation alone. Check the nominal size, hole and shaft deviations for its size interval, required clearance, and assembly and operating conditions.

How do micrometres convert to millimetres?

1 mm = 1000 μm. For example, 0.010 mm = 10 μm. Use the same units before comparing results.

Does the tool replace engineering verification?

It assists lookup and understanding. Before manufacture, verify the applicable standard edition, drawing requirements, process capability, and inspection results.
