Arrange sound and visibility
For a face-to-face project discussion mixing Chinese explanations and English terms, explain the captioning setup first. Choose a quiet position, keep the microphone near the speaker, and let the reader see the screen comfortably. Agree to take turns: translation cannot recover speech the microphone did not capture clearly.
Read the source before translating
- Start AUV Type and check recognition of nearby Chinese, English, and mixed speech.
- Adjust text size and use full-screen reading. Check grip and microphone placement in landscape.
- Select Chinese or English translation only when needed; otherwise follow the original transcript.
- Pause to verify names, amounts, dates, units, and negation by repetition or written confirmation.
- Restate agreed next steps before ending the conversation and list unresolved points.
Know when to pause
If someone says “Thursday, not Tuesday, at two,” confirm the actual calendar date and time before scheduling. A fluent translation is insufficient when negation or dates may be wrong. Ask for unfamiliar product names to be spelled. Captions help maintain the conversation; confirmation remains a shared activity.
Test a short exchange first
Check ordinary sentences before the substantive discussion. Acceptance means the reader can comfortably follow text, operate translation, and stop the exchange when recognition becomes unclear. Decide deliberately whether to retain history. Signed-out history stays on the device; optional account sync does not mean every conversation should be retained indefinitely.
Scope and limits
This is nearby face-to-face captioning, not a dictation keyboard or a promise of system-wide or phone-call captions. On-device fallback requires a supported iOS 26 system and manually installed language captions. Do not rely on generated captions for emergencies, medical, legal, or safety-critical decisions.
